PowerPoint's Slide Master

Friday, August 29, 2008 View Comments Comments (0)
Have you used PowerPoint's Slide Master?  A part of your design template, it's where you can set up formats (font, background colors, graphics and so forth) that will automatically apply to the rest of the slides in your presentation.  If you want to make a change to any of the formatted elements after the presentation is completed, you simply work through the Slide Master, and you're done.  To find it, click on View / Master / Slide Master.  Create whatever setting you'd like, and click Close Master View.

The Meaning of Wiki

Friday, August 22, 2008 View Comments Comments (0)
You've probably heard of Wikipedia.  The online collaborative encyclopedia is one of the best-known examples of a "wiki," which is a collection of web pages that are created for the purpose of collaboration.  Basically, wikis are designed to allow anyone who accesses the site to contribute or modify content.  Wikis are commonly used to power community websites and, as in the case of Wikipedia, to create collaborative sites.  Businesses also use them in the creation of  intranets.

Categorize Your Calendar

Monday, August 18, 2008 View Comments Comments (0)
If you have an E-zekiel package that contains the Group Manager (Gold or Platinum level), you can create "categories" within your Event Manager that enable your groups to search for events relevant only to them. At the start of their search, site visitors will be able to choose the category they want to see (youth, choir, deacons, etc.), and E-zekiel will filter out all other events.

To create a category, take the following steps:

1) Open the Event Manager.
2) Add New Event or select a previously created Event.
3) Click the Personalization tab at the top.
4) Select a group, save and exit.

From the dropdown menu on the Events Page, your event calendar is now searchable by the category you've created.

If you want to know more about creating groups, check out the online help manual.

What is social networking?

Friday, August 15, 2008 View Comments Comments (0)
If you have a teen in your house, you probably don't need us to tell you:  online social networking is big these days.  Among the most well-known names, Facebook has 115,000,000 registered users, while MySpace has 110,000,000.  Generally, online social networking is conducted via a website that allows individuals to create their own public or semi-public profile within the particular online community, to create a list of users with whom they share a connection (in some cases by invitation only), and to participate in the community based on their list of connections.
In addition to the general networks that are so popular among teens, there are also communities based on music, movies, travel, crafts, business interests, etc.  And there are of course communities that would be considered "adult" sites.
We probably don't need to tell you this either:  not unlike in the real world, social networking comes with cautions.  People can make claims that they are someone they aren't.  As a general rule, if you meet a "stranger" in a community, always use caution and common sense.  If something seems "amiss," you're probably right.

Printing PowerPoint Slides, Notes Included

Friday, August 08, 2008 View Comments Comments (0)
You can create printable PowerPoint pages – with notes and descriptive text included – by using a feature call Notes Pages (or Speaker's Notes in some versions).  Go to the View menu for any slide and select Notes Pages.  The image of your slide will appear, along with a placeholder for adding whatever notes or text you wish.  (You can also cut and paste from Word to this placeholder.)  Then, when you're ready to print, look for "Print What" in the bottom of the Print dialog box and select Notes Pages.

Easy-to-Locate Visitor Information

Friday, July 25, 2008 View Comments Comments (0)
Website visitors are often looking for what church visitors would want to know prior to a visit.  So make sure you provide what they need – in a way that's easy to find.  What should be covered?  Almost anything from the list below:
  • Contact information, including church address, phone numbers, fax number, list of staff members, email addresses.
  • Directions to the church – written from various starting points, if necessary, along with maps or links to mapping sites.  Include parking instructions, if needed.
  • Schedule of worship services and Bible study times, with locations.
  • Photos of the church – so they'll know what they're looking for!

Redesigned Support Site Coming Soon

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 View Comments Comments (0)
You'll soon see a restructured and redesigned support site geared toward a more friendly user experience.  Our goal is to help you learn how to use our product in a way that maximizes your online ministry's effectiveness in communication and outreach.
Among the highlights, information that users are most likely to seek is categorized in a way that's easily navigated and accessible through icons across the top:  Getting Started, Email Setup, Managers Overview, Using the Editor, Knowledge Base, Video Tutorials and Release Notes.   A list of popular support topics on the home page will lead you to explanations of tools and features that are most commonly requested.  In addition, the Knowledge Base is a recently added feature where customers can quickly find the answers to questions others have already called in and asked about.
As always, the support team will also continue to provide telephone support from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday at 1-888-942-6607 or by emailing support@e-zekiel.com.

Free Download of PowerPoint Viewer

Did you know that the popular PowerPoint program offers a "viewer" much like Adobe Acrobat offers a "reader"?  Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007 lets you view full-featured presentations created in PowerPoint 97 and later versions.  You can view and print presentations, but you cannot edit them.  The viewer can be downloaded for free at www.microsoft.com or search for it in the download center at Microsoft.com.
