Social Media Mindset Markers

Tuesday, October 13, 2009 View Comments Comments (0)
Paul Chaney, author of The Digital Handshake, has identified several mindset markers that should characterize a shift in thinking on social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, etc.).  Among them:
  • Your Website is the hub. Use of social media should always point back to the site.
  • Information on your site should be findable and shareable. Include the right keywords, use of Search Engine Optimization, and easy ways to share pages with others.
  • Listening is the new marketing. Social media gives you a chance to learn more about your members and prospects.
  • Everybody has a voice, and every voice matters. Social media and website communication tools make two-way conversations possible.
  • Be willing to lose control of your content if you want to spread your ideas. Audio sermons, online videos, and other resources can be made easily available.

Planning and Promoting a Fall Festival

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 View Comments Comments (0)

E-zekiel has managers that can help in every area of planning and promotion of a fall festival:

Pages – Create a web page with a promotional link from the home page with all the details of the event.  Make sure volunteers have what they need to know and potential attendees will find the details they need as well.  Encourage site visitors to forward this page to their friends and family.

Designs – E-zekiel has Fall designs would be a good fit for your festival promotion. Check them out.

Volunteer – The HelpRoot Volunteer manager can provide organizational tools to request and collect volunteer names and contact information, and manage their assignments.

Event – Place the Fall Festival on your event calendar.

Communication, People and Group – Send out email blasts and targeted emails to groups to let them know this important event will be taking place.  Each group should receive specific messaging tailored to their abilities as volunteers and interests as participants.

Media – Create a short movie advertising your festival and upload to E-zekiel.tv. You can also provide scenes from previous festivals and video testimonials from previous participants.

Syndication – Include the festival in blogs or podcasts.

Album – During the festival, have someone (or several people) take photos and add these to albums on your site as good memories of good times… and as your first step toward promoting next year’s festival!

Uploading Multiple Files is Now Easier

Tuesday, September 29, 2009 View Comments Comments (0)
E-zekiel has added a new feature giving you the ability to upload multiple files at one time in your My Files storage area. Previously, it was necessary to search and attach files individually before uploading them. Now you can search and attach multiple files, saving clicks and time.

You’ll also notice that the feedback you receive while files are uploading has been improved. You can see which file is currently uploading and the ones that will follow.

To take advantage of this new feature, you must have the Flash player installed. You can download the Flash player for free from Adobe.com. If you don't have Flash installed, the previous method (search and attach each file individually) is still available.

Download vs. Upload

What’s the difference between the common computer terms, download and upload?  They both have to do with transferring information, images, forms, etc., but just in different directions.  When you download a file, for example, the data transfers from a website to your computer. When you upload an image, for example, the data transfers from your computer to a website.

Dangerous Celebrity Searches

Friday, August 28, 2009 View Comments Comments (0)
The Internet puts a world of information right at your fingertips – and a good bit of risk at the same time.  McAfee, the computer security firm, recently released a list of top 10 celebrity searches that can lead to the most trouble.  Number one on the list was Jessica Biel.  One in five searches for the former star of 7th Heaven leads to pages, photos, videos, etc. that contain a cyber-security threat.  Beyonce, Jennifer Aniston, Tom Brady and Jessica Simpson follow in second through fifth place, while Brad Pitt comes in at tenth.

Summer Fun On Your Site

Friday, August 14, 2009 View Comments Comments (0)
Was your church a hubbub of activity this summer?  Youth choir tours, ice cream socials, vacation bible school, potluck dinners, neighborhood and community ministries, mission trips and more… before your summer fun fades from memory, capture the highlights in photo albums you create on your site.

If your E-zekiel package has the Albums manager, you’ll start by creating a main Albums page.  From there, you can add an unlimited number of albums.  But please remember, your storage space will have limits, depending on your plan.  Keeping a close watch on image size, however, will likely keep you well within limits.

Another good thing to know:  while the Album Manager page is the page that houses your albums, you can also use internal site links to link another page to a specific album.
