Human Rights Day - Dec. 10

Thursday, December 10, 2009 View Comments Comments (0)
Human Rights Day 2009 is being held across the globe on December 10. This is a day set aside by the United Nations that dates back to 1950 and commemorates the December 10, 1948 adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. According to the U.N. Web site, the promotion and protection of human rights grew out of the founding nations' resolve that the horrors of The Second World War should never be allowed to recur. The theme this year is non-discrimination.

Reducing Video File Sizes

Tuesday, December 08, 2009 View Comments Comments (0)
If you’re creating and sharing videos on your Web site, you’ve seen that file size affects upload time. And some files really are too big to handle. With E-zekiel.tv, video uploads are limited to 100MB and ten minutes in length. Also keep in mind that E-zekiel.tv resamples video files to 320 pixels by 240 pixels, which means that uploading files with larger dimensions doesn’t improve quality, but does lengthen upload time.

There are various formats for video files, including AVI, QuickTime and MPEG. Whatever format you’re using, your video editor can be used to reduce the file size and optimize the dimensions before uploading. You can also trim or crop unneeded parts of your video for a shorter play time.

If you’re using E-zekiel.com’s Media Manager, you click the “Add Media” button, select the audio file from your hard drive, fill in the other fields and click “upload” at the bottom. Audio files can be as long as 30 minutes in length.  A number of types of audio files can be uploaded, including:

AAC: Advanced Audio Coding (Macintosh)
AIFF: Audio Interchange File Format

OGA: Ogg Audio
MP2: MPEG Layer 2

Choosing a Domain Name

Wednesday, November 04, 2009 View Comments Comments (0)
Choosing a domain name is one of those decisions that has far-reaching impact. Ideally, you will promote your domain name on all printed material as well as your advertising and marketing materials – even the sides of your ministry vehicles. So, how will you choose?

Domain names have to be typed, so keep yours short and easy to remember. While we all like “unique,” you wouldn’t want something so out of the ordinary that a person has to study the Web address character by character in order to type it into the browser.

Be aware that you’ll be giving this address over the phone, perhaps in radio commercials, and spelling counts – so beware of special characters that don’t translate well when you’re speaking them.

Social Media Mindset Markers

Tuesday, October 13, 2009 View Comments Comments (0)
Paul Chaney, author of The Digital Handshake, has identified several mindset markers that should characterize a shift in thinking on social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, etc.).  Among them:
  • Your Website is the hub. Use of social media should always point back to the site.
  • Information on your site should be findable and shareable. Include the right keywords, use of Search Engine Optimization, and easy ways to share pages with others.
  • Listening is the new marketing. Social media gives you a chance to learn more about your members and prospects.
  • Everybody has a voice, and every voice matters. Social media and website communication tools make two-way conversations possible.
  • Be willing to lose control of your content if you want to spread your ideas. Audio sermons, online videos, and other resources can be made easily available.

Planning and Promoting a Fall Festival

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 View Comments Comments (0)

E-zekiel has managers that can help in every area of planning and promotion of a fall festival:

Pages – Create a web page with a promotional link from the home page with all the details of the event.  Make sure volunteers have what they need to know and potential attendees will find the details they need as well.  Encourage site visitors to forward this page to their friends and family.

Designs – E-zekiel has Fall designs would be a good fit for your festival promotion. Check them out.

Volunteer – The HelpRoot Volunteer manager can provide organizational tools to request and collect volunteer names and contact information, and manage their assignments.

Event – Place the Fall Festival on your event calendar.

Communication, People and Group – Send out email blasts and targeted emails to groups to let them know this important event will be taking place.  Each group should receive specific messaging tailored to their abilities as volunteers and interests as participants.

Media – Create a short movie advertising your festival and upload to E-zekiel.tv. You can also provide scenes from previous festivals and video testimonials from previous participants.

Syndication – Include the festival in blogs or podcasts.

Album – During the festival, have someone (or several people) take photos and add these to albums on your site as good memories of good times… and as your first step toward promoting next year’s festival!
