Facebook in Ministry

Friday, September 02, 2011 View Comments Comments (0)
What are the actual ways Facebook can be used in ministry? Church social media blogger Meredith Gould says it’s about the news feeds (which is a way you can have a presence in other people’s busy lives) and it’s about sharing (which is how you can connect with those same busy lives). Take a look at her original post and the comments that follow give food for thought.

What's a Parent Page

When you open your Pages manager and click "add a new page," and if you so indicate in the details section, the page you create will become a part of your site menu. Let's call it "Sunday School," as an example. If you are in this Sunday School page in your Pages manager and click the plus sign for "add page,"  and create pages for "Preschool", or "Youth", or "Senior Adult", these pages will fall in your site hierarchy under the Sunday School page. In other words, the Sunday School page is a "parent" to these other pages and can have any number of offspring – like Preschool, Children's, Youth, Adult, Senior Adult pages.

When you in a page in your Pages manager, the tab at the top left says "Parent." If you want to reorder your site and page relationships, start here:

1.       Click the Parent Page tab.
2.       You will see a list of all pages within your Web site.
3.       Locate and select the page which you want to become the Parent Page of the page you are currently within.
4.       If the page is a secondary page and you want to make it a top-level page on your main menu, select "Home Page" from your page listing.

Site Search Easy Panel

Friday, July 29, 2011 View Comments Comments (0)
A website’s search field is one of the elements that improves a site’s usability – allowing a visitor quick access to whatever he is seeking.  The toolbar that automatically appears at the bottom of each E-zekiel site includes a magnifying-glass icon that opens a search field for site visitors. Customers who have incorporated E-zekiel themes into their sites (themes are free to all users) also have the option to add an on-page site search Easy Panel. Doing so saves visitors one click and brings the search field to the top of your web pages, a common, easy to see, place for this feature. To order the panel, visit E-zekielstore.com.

Keep It Short and Simple

Friday, July 22, 2011 View Comments Comments (0)
Access to information these days is certainly on overload. Between the radio and TV commercials, billboards, website banner ads, and whatever we see in print, any of us could be scanning hundreds and hundreds of messages each day. If that's not enough reason to keep things short and simple, we're also in a "tweet"-influenced culture. Twitter, for example, limits messages to 140 characters. So as you craft words for your site, for social media and even at times in your email messages, make an impact in as few words as possible - and then provide a link to more information.

Local Listings with Google Places

Have you listed your church on Google Places? As Google will tell you, 97% of consumers search for local businesses online. And somewhere within those very high numbers, quite a few will also search for a church.
These days “local” is the new “global”. We’ve been astounded and impressed by how far-reaching the Web can go, but what we really want to know is, “What’s in my community?” Google Places, which was known as the “Local Business Center” until mid-2010, was designed to help people find restaurants, theaters, businesses and, yes, churches, in their own communities.
Google Places is free and easy to set up. Just submit your information and then verify your listing. You can even enhance your listing by adding photos, videos, and upcoming events.

News About Domain Names

Friday, June 24, 2011 View Comments Comments (0)
There’s news recently from the world of domain names. The regulatory body that governs all things .com, .net, .info and more has agreed to revamp the domain naming system and allow more personalized suffixes. In the near future, organizations and businesses will be able to use brands or places -- .toyota or .newyork, for example. It’s all thanks to an action from ICANN – Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers – and yes, there really is such a place. You can read an article about the announcement here:

Whatever choices become available, as always, E-zekiel will continue to manage domain name acquisition and annual renewals for our customers. If at any time, you’d like to add a domain name for your site, just let us know.
